What Is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of physical therapy that focuses on the pelvic floor region. Pelvic floor physical therapy address some of the following types of pelvic dysfunction (when an area of the pelvic floor is injured or not functioning as it typically should) pelvic pain, and/or pelvic floor weakness:

  • Pain during urination

  • Urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine)

  • Prolapse (uterine, vaginal, or rectal)

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Constipation

  • Pain in the pelvic area

  • Weak or tight pelvic floor

Pelvic floor physical therapy can address pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) or anything else that affects your ability to regulate your bowels or bladder or perform a sexual function. Additionally, it can help clients who struggle with pelvic pain or fear around intercourse or self-pleasure as well.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is also a great option for new parents to help them strengthen their pelvic floor before or after giving birth. Starting a pregnancy with strong pelvic floor muscles helps decrease the damage these muscles may experience under the strain of carrying a baby.

Hi, I’m Brittney.

Our Founder Brittney Ellers, PT, DPT, RYT (she/her), is a pelvic physical therapist, yoga instructor, mentor, and guide. She has been through her own pelvic floor issues and helped many clients heal and overcome theirs as well. She’s proud to offer individualized pelvic floor healthcare to her clients and witness their journeys.

Brittney realizes what a privileged and intimate role she plays with her clients and addresses their concerns with the utmost attention, love, and care. She understands that an individual’s relationship with their pelvic floor can be complex, and she honors the complexity and individuality of each client she works with throughout her time with them.

“My relationship with my pelvic health is an ever-changing journey, and I continue to embody what it means to self-discover, sustain, find comfort and confidence in my pelvic space.”

“I had a great experience – the one-on-one guided sessions were what I needed to re-establish the connection I was lacking. At first, I felt like it was extravagant or over-the-top to seek pelvic floor physical therapy, but Brittney made me feel at ease and that the issues I was encountering could be solved.”
